I've got to have the treadmill folks come take a look at my machine before my warranty expires in July--for some reason it was picking up a pulse and it's not set up to recognize one unless I'm holding on to the sensors (which I wasn't).  I'm also going to see if they can check the speed, pace, distance, and other related readings.

It was good to run though.  Last time I ran was a week ago tonight--and I think Teena Marie was missing my reports.

I watched ER Season 10, episode 8.  That's the one where Dr. Romano gets crushed under the helicopter.  I'm gonna miss that guy!

I know, my bad--do I see brimstone in my future?  Superbowl Sunday is not one of my favorite days of the year--this year I decided to run through some of it.  I was going to go longer, but opted to call 'er good at 45 minutes.

I ordered me some new trail running shoes on Friday: Asics GT-2150 Trail.

Me likey!  I started out to fast though--the last two miles were roughly 30+ seconds slower (each) than the rest.  Oh well.  I think tomorrow is a treadmill day.

Faster, a little bit.  I figured the treadmill is only going to push me if I push the buttons a bit more, so I did.  Not a lot, but I'll get there.  Still can't get past the perceived difference in effort with the road vs. the treadmill.

ER Season 10, episode 14.  Make sure you hug the ones you love!

Peace!

I ran the last two minutes at what the treadmill said was a 7:30 pace. How 'bout them apples!?

Wore the compression calf sleeves I got--not sure the run was long enough to get much of an opinion of them, and a flat road run really isn't the purpose for which I got 'em anyways.

My splits were as follows: 8:16, 8:19, 8:28, 8:35, 8:30, 9:10, 8:37 (and :04 for the .01).  The last 1.5 was slightly uphill (huge emphasis on the slightly) and into the wind.

A light snow was falling--I LOVE it!  Seriously, the way the snow flakes fall into my eyes and melt is one of the most awesome things ever!

Negative split by 20 seconds or so.

Great run this morning with Kathie, Kimmie, Smooth, Kelli, Teena, Davy Crockett, and LuzyLew...

Splits are 10:13, 8:55, 8:43, 10:04, 10:47, 13:24, 8:35, 8:20, 8:18, 8:36, and 7:40 for the .84.

Good times!  I'll report more later when my daughter isn't pestering me to get moving.

OK, here's the long of it--from my perspective anyways.  Long is relative given that I only ran 10.8 and most everybody else ran 18 (and some ran even more than that).

When I left my place at 7:40, shorts and a fleece pullover felt like plenty--and then the fleece might have been too much.  At the trailhead there by the Jordan River it became overly apparent that the fleece pullover was great, the shorts might not have been the best choice.  Oh well.

I started out running with Davy Crockett--the renowned local ultra runner--talking about my experience with Squaw Peak, the 13 miles he had just finished on his treadmill prior to meeting everyone on the trail, the Buffalo Run and his plans to run the 50 mile course--twice.  I think my jaw dragging along the trail slowed me down some cause just before we hit the 1-mile mark he had left me in the dust.

For the next 3 miles I ran along side Teena Marie and Kelli and found myself entertained and occasionally amused with their conversation.  At 3 1/2 miles I started having some stomach problems and ended up walking a bit between there and the turn around.  From there back to the cars, however, I felt much better and kept a decent pace, eventually catching up to everyone but Davy, Teena, and Kelli (although they did come back about a quarter of a mile and run back to the cars with us).  I was able to meet and visit with LuzyLew a bit there at the end as well.

Everybody but Kathie, Kimmie, and I kept on running--true dedication right there I'll tell ya!  Not that Kathie or Kimmie don't have true dedication--they had both run a couple of miles before the rest of us even showed up.  I, on the other hand, had a daughter at home waiting for me.  And once I did get home, she was anxious for me to get moving on to bigger and better (read more entertaining for her) things.

So, that's it.  I'm sorry, Teena, that my early departure messed things up, but I'm sure there will be other opportunities--like next week maybe (although I don't know if I'm ready to hit 22, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to make an attempt given I've got a 50k in just over a month...).

Anyways, Smooth, thanks for pulling this run together.  Let's do it again!  It was a blast!

A nice, but frigid, run to help deal with Monday and stress.  Ahhhhhhh.  I feel better.  Now if I could just get someone to go paint at my brother's for me tonight...

~

Maybe when I'm done painting I'll hit the treadmill for another 45 minutes.

Maybe.

I have been reading Born To Run and I had big plans for tonight's run.  I was going to run and enjoy myself, despite the fact that it would be on the treadmill.  I was going to connect with the true runner within me.  I was going to get lost in the miles.  I was seriously going to kick some treadmill butt!  1.59 miles in I ran out of gas. I suck.

C-R-A-P!

I'm trying to talk myself into giving it another go in about an hour, but it'll be 10:30 by then.  Maybe tomorrow morning before work, but that will make a run at work difficult.  I don't know what to do.  Somebody make the decision for me--I can't do it on my own tonight.

What a difference 15 hours makes.

7.18 miles / 0:57:47 / 8:03 A.P. / Provo River Trail

My only plan with today's run was to run with improved form--shoulders back and hips forward--not the slogging I've done for, like, forever.  I took shorter strides and tried to ensure my foot strike occured underneath me rather than out in front, which, I hope, created more of a fore/mid-foot strike rather than the heel strike I've grown accustomed to.  Without any perceived increase in effort I seem to have knocked off 15 seconds (average) per mile from Monday's PRT run.

FYI: Unskinny Bop by Poison has an awesome rhythm/beat that made the shorter strides easier.

I so wanted to cut out of work early today and go run some trails.  Best I could manage was the treadmill tonight.  Oh well.

Again, I wanted to maintain better posture throughout the run--seemed more difficult to monitor and keep while on the treadmill.  Maybe it's just my perception.

My knees are bugging me just a teeny bit, but nothing that is overly concerning at this point.
