Had probably 10 minutes left of my show but when the 45:00 displayed on the readout--I was done...

I'd be happy at 5.5 miles in 45 minutes on the treadmill.  I'd be happy to manage 50 minutes on the treadmill at 5.5 miles.

UVRMC up to the Y trailhead, across the Bonneville Shoreline Trail to Rock Canyon, down past the Provo Temple to the Provo River Trail, and back over to UVRMC.  Haven't run that loop in years!  Felt good, but the hills up to the Y trailhead and half way across to Rock Canyon kicked my butt!

And boy, was it ever!

Gave the new Asics GT-2150 Trail shoes a break-in run.  Not sure what to think.  The shoelaces are too short.  Why is it that shoelaces are either too long or too short?

Watched a bit of Comanche Moon (parts 1 & 2).  Steve Zahn as Gus--who would've thunk it?  He's pretty darn good though!

Time for a chocolate milk!  :)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!

No energy.  No gas.  No go.

Was going to run at 8:30 but 30 Rock started and I had to watch it.  That must have been the problem.

Was sick a bit from Wednesday on through today.  Not sure what.  Nauseated, headache/migraines, generally deflated.  This morning I had the worst of the migraines, but by 6:00 tonight it was mostly gone and I thought I'd give an easy run a go.  My easy run turned into the longest treadmill run of the year.  I would have kept going but I've got an eleven-year old staying with me tonight and she wants her father to go to bed too.  Sheesh.  What fathers won't do for their daughters.

I'm about half way through Part 3 of Comanche Moon--the Larry McMurtry Lonesome Dove prequel.  I like it.  I noticed back on Thursday when I put in that pathetic 1.6 miles--I was watching 30 Rock just before I ran and Elizabeth Banks was guest starring as Jack's current love interest.  Well, it just so happens that she's also in Comanche Moon!  Yeah!  She plays the part of Maggie--Newt's mother.  And she liked Cap'n Call too before he went and got all stubborn and prideful.  What she didn't ever appear in was ER.  But you know who did that is in Comanche Moon?  Linda Cardellini--she played nurse Samantha Taggart from 2003 all the way to the end, 2009.

But I digress.  Tonight's was a good run, and now my baby girl is asleep--I suppose I could go jump on the treadmill and run a bit more.  And I would if it weren't 11:00...

Four laps around Rotary Park here in American Fork is roughly 1.1 miles.  The first 1.1 miles was run barefoot.  10:33 total time, 9:32 pace.  The second 1.1 was in my old Saucony's.  9:54 total time, 8:52 pace.  I may hit the treadmill later.

Ankles and calves hurt.  Those hills are buggers!  As crappy as I felt in the first few miles, I ended up only being 4 seconds slower than last weeks run.

I also think that starting a barefoot running/foot strengthening regimen so close to a race (Buffalo Run 50K, March 27) was a mistake.  I think I'll stop all barefoot running until that's over.

Group run on Saturday: 7:00 a.m. at the Provo River Parkway trailhead located at, or near, Utah Lake State Park.

Good run, even better company.  Thanks Smooth, Kathie and Kimmy for putting up with me.  Smooth and Kathie kicked my butt!  Can I get a Hallelujah! for those donuts?  BM, Cougar, and McFrosty all started out with us.  It was a good group.

Now I think I'll just take it easy between now and the Buffalo Run 50K next Saturday.  Fun-fun!

I woke up to some fairly significant lower back pain. I literally could not bend over to tie my shoes. The lady at the Walmart suggested I go see a doc. "If it hurts to lay flat on your back on a hard floor or you can't do the Downward Dog yoga pose, you should go see a doctor about that!" Come heck or high water, despite what Walmart advice lady suggested, I was at least going to show up to this race--and so I did. The ibuprofen had kicked in, thankfully, by the time I got there.

Recollections from last years experience, I think, helped me this year. My first lap was 5+ minutes faster than last years. Fly describes the course perfectly: up followed by some down and then some up and more down and then repeat (not an exact quote). And then when you get back to the start finish area, you really do repeat it all over again--all 16 miles. About 9 miles in my Garmin starting warning me that the batteries were low so at the turnaround I opted to leave it in my drop bag and save myself from carrying dead weight around my wrist on the second lap.

I struggled the second lap, but somehow picked up another 5 minutes over last years time. My finish was 6:39:xx. I actually dropped 13 minutes from last years time so I'm pretty pleased with that.

I saw Fly at the start and then again on lap two--he was off watering some rocks. He looked good and finished strong under 5 hours. I saw Dale and his son just before finishing my first lap and then he walked with me a bit as I began my second lap. He's excited to run this next year. He should have stayed until I finished--I think that may have caused him to rationally re-think that choice. Just kidding. It's really a fun race and Jim Skaggs really puts on a nice event. The buffalo stew they prepare and serve post-race was tasty, but I had two bites and decided if I continued eating it it would come right back up.

My Finisher Mug is displayed prominently here on my computer desk. I also had what I'm calling a potential close call with two buffalo. I recorded in on my camera. I'll try and post it somewhere where it can be viewed as soon as I edit out the part where I wet my pants.
